Podium for Karen Brouwer, Roel Verhoeven, Gerben Mos and Tim Smeenge

In the dunes near recreation site Boomhiemke on the isle Ameland the mountainbikers faced a challenging track last Saturday. Karen Brouwer and René Hooghiemster were outstanding and took the victory.

From the start Hooghiemster took the lead with his teammate Coen Vermeltvoort and KMC biker Roel Verhoeven. Vermeltvoort crashed and Verhoeven who was behind him had to stop and afterwards could not close the gap to Hooghiemster. Vermeltvoort left the race and Martin Mijnten took the last podium spot by leaving Verhoevens teammate Martin Schuttert behind. Brouwer rode her own race in the ladies category and took a solo victory.

In Apeldoorn Gerben Mos raced for victory in a marathon over 108 kilometer on Saturday. Early in the race he was part of a four men leading group and with 25 kilometers to go he escaped with Marc Bouwmeester who beated him in the sprint.

Tim Smeenge faced luck and bad luck in only 24 hours this weekend in Portugal. On Saturday he rode a strong second stage with Thom Bonder in Algarve Bike Challenge in which they finished 3th. Together with their 10th place in the prologue they were ranked 3th in GC at that moment. Unfortunately in the final stage a big stone hit Thom’s rear derailleur and they had to abandon the race.
